Angela Marie Scherer of Cape Girardeau will be competing in the 1998 Miss Missouri Pageant, to be held in Mexico, Mo. in June.
Scherer will compete as Miss Northeast Missouri.
Scherer is a 1997 graduate of Southeast Missouri State University and a 1992 graduate of Jackson High School. She is currently enrolled at the University of Missouri-Columbia and plans to become a veterinarian.
She hopes to become Miss Missouri, Miss America and a successful rural veterinarian.
For the past six years, Scherer has been a board member of the Cape Girardeau chapter of Habitat for Humanity. She has also served as vice-president and public spokesperson for the organization.
Candidates in the Miss Missouri pageant are encouraged to select a cause or issue of concern. Scherer has selected affordable housing for the homeless.
While at Southeast, Scherer was the vice president of the Agriculture club. At MU Vet School, she is involved in the Zoo Club, Raptor Rehabilitation Project and the student chapter of the American Veterinary Medical Association.
She is the daughter of Gary and Bonnie Scherer of Cape Girardeau and has one brother.
The Miss Missouri pageant has four areas of competition and each are weighted differently.
In the talent competition, which is worth 40 percent of the total, Scherer will give a vocal presentation.
The evening gown competition is worth 15 percent, as is the swimsuit competition. The interview is worth 30 percent. There are 31 contestants in this year's pageant.
