MINER, Mo. -- Landlords of rental properties in Miner have some new requirements.

The Miner Board of Aldermen approved an ordinance setting guidelines for rental property owners during its regular meeting Tuesday.

The ordinance is modeled on one implemented in Sikeston, Mo., several years ago, according to Danielle Patrick, city clerk.

Owners of rental property in Miner must now require new tenants to fill out an application for occupation of the property. Applications must then be submitted to the city collector along with a $10 occupancy permit fee.

An occupancy permit will be issued by the city code enforcement officer upon completion of an inspection.

Owners of rental units must also submit a listing of all rental properties, both occupied and vacant, by Dec. 1 of each year. The list must include the addresses and names of tenants.

Failure to provide the list by Jan. 1 can result in a fine of not less than $500 while failure to register tenants before occupancy has a minimum fine of $100 for the first offense.
