Vogel graduates from Navy Recruit Training

Navy Seaman Sarah R. Vogel, daughter of Carol E. Vogel of Cape Girardeau and Paul E. Vogel of Scott City, was recently promoted to her current rank upon graduation from recruit training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. Vogel received the early promotion for outstanding performance. Vogel is a 2002 graduate of Central High School of Cape Girardeau.

Two area troops serve aboard USS Carl Vinson

Navy Seaman Recruit Katherine D. Johnson and Navy Airman Joshua D. Nelson are currently involved in a routine scheduled deployment while assigned to the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson, homeported in Bremerton, Wash. Johnson, Nelson and more than 7,600 shipmates of the Carl Vinson Carrier Strike Group, deployed to the Persian Gulf. Johnson, the daughter of Helen and Roosevelt Johnson of Haywood City, is a 2004 graduate of Scott County Central High School in Morley, Mo., and joined the Navy in July. Nelson, the son of Laura A. Haney of East Prairie, Mo., and John D. Nelson of Sikeston, is a 2001 graduate of Charleston High School who joined the Navy in June 2003.
