JACKSON, Mo. -- Nearly $150,000 in Community Development Block Grant funding has been approved for road improvements that will help a Jackson company expand.
The state Department of Economic Development has approved the grant of up to $149,125 that is to be used to improve Dogwood Avenue, an access road to Midwest Sterilization Corporation. Dogwood Avenue, located off Highway PP in the southern part of the city, currently is partially paved and part gravel.
Mayor Paul Sander announced the awarding of the grant at Monday night's meeting of the Board of Supervisors.
Midwest Sterilization sterilizes a variety of products, from medical packs to herbs and spices.
Terms of the grant require the company to spend at least $1.5 million on its expansion over the next two years and to hire at least 15 new full-time employees.
Paving Dogwood Avenue ties into the city's long-range plans to build a bypass from Highway 34/72 to Highway 25 around the southern side of the city.
