CAPE GIRARDEAU -- The Cape Girardeau Area Vocational-Technical School will offer four microcomputer courses beginning June 10.
Basic Computer Fundamentals begins June 10 and will run for six weeks. The class meets on Mondays from 6-8:30 p.m. Students will acquire fundamentals of computer science with emphasis on software applications. An introduction to Lotus 1-2-3, WordPerfect and Dbase III will be included. The class costs $50, plus the book.
Introduction to DOS will begin June 11 for six weeks. The class meets on Tuesdays from 6-8 p.m. and includes an introduction to the operating system used on IBM and compatible microcomputers. Students will receive hands-on practice with basic and intermediate level DOS commands. Cost of the class is $40, plus book.
Beginning WordPerfect 5.1 will begin June 12 and will meet from 6-8:30 p.m. on Wednesdays for six weeks. This course acquaints students with word processing software on IBMs. Topics include equipment operation, creating and editing documents, commands, printing, styles, columns, outlining, page numbering and other. The class costs $45, plus book.
Beginning Lotus 1-2-3 (version 2.2) will begin June 13 and will meet on Thursdays from 6-8:30 p.m. for six weeks. This course includes an overview of the program including spreadsheet, graphs and charts. Students will participate in entering data to create their own spreadsheets, modify data and prints charts and graphs. The class costs $70, plus book.
