METROPOLIS WOMAN KILLED IN TWO-CAR ACCIDENT
A Metropolis, Ill., woman died after an two-car accident near Mermet, Ill., early Wednesday morning. Tracy Durkes, 33, of Metropolis was driving south on U.S. Highway 45 three-quarters of a mile north of Mermet in Massac County, when a car driven by Elaine Modicue, 41, of Perks, Ill., crossed the center line and struck Durkes' car head-on, according to the Illinois State Police. Tracy Durkes, 33, of Metropolis was driving south on U.S. Highway 45 three-quarters of a mile north of Mermet in Massac County, when a car driven by Elaine Modicue, 41, of Perks, Ill., crossed the center line and struck Durkes' car head-on, according to the Illinois State Police. The accident occurred at 2:05 a.m. Wednesday.
Durkes was pronounced dead on the scene. Modicue was taken to Massac Memorial Hospital in Metropolis where she was treated and released. The state police cited her for improper lane usage.
