"Guess Who's Living Next Door to You?" is the topic of the fourth annual Clergy Conference, hosted by the Southeast Missouri Mental Health Center in Farmington. The conference is scheduled Wednesday at the regional center.
The conference will explore new directions being explored in the mental health field that focus on housing and community support systems. Ways at normalizing housing for the mentally ill will also be discussed.
Jack Hillyard, until recently a deputy director in the central office of the Missouri Department of Mental Health, will be the speaker.
Father Albert Rehme, director of the pastoral care department at the mental health center, said: "There will be many questions from the community when this subject is broached, I am sure. People will have concerns about safety in their neighborhoods, violent behavior, etc. Ministers exert influence over these people. It is our hope that our learning experience on this day will provide them with answers to allay such fears."
A panel discussion will address the wave of the future of mental health in the community.
