POCAHONTAS -- These pictures show the Pocahontas Station on Louis Houck's Cape Girardeau-Chester Railroad. They were loaned to us by Linda Ludwig Petzoldt.

The one picture shows Linda's uncle, John H. Ludwig, standing on the west side of the station, near the railroad tracks.

The other photo shows the "goat man" by the depot. This was on the east side of the building along former Highway 25, now U.S. 61. The goat man was traveling along the highway, and Linda took his picture.

The location of the depot was a half mile south of the intersection of U.S. 61, Pocahontas Road and Route E, east of Oak Ridge.

Today, the Charles Fadler home is on the site of the railroad track. The depot was near where U.S. 61 goes in front of the Fadler house. The old Highway 25 was east of the depot.

When Highway 25 was rebuilt, the depot was removed to make room for the highway.

Houck's train service was put into use here in about 1905, and discontinued in about 1928.
