Beating the rain, members of the American Legion Althenthal-Joerns Post # 158 and the American Legion Auxiliary got in their Memorial Day services Monday outdoors.

Tentative plans to move the ceremony to the legion hall proved unnecessary. The shortened ceremony took place at the entrance to the Jackson City Cemetery on South High Street.

The keynote speech was given by Rev. Jim Matthews, an ordained Baptist minister. Robert Hartle, Post 158 commander, also spoke. Benediction was given by Charles Hutson, post chaplain.

The Jackson Municipal Band provided musical entertainment prior to the ceremony and also performed during the ceremony.
