PERRYVILLE -- Melvin J. Brewer Sr., 79, of Perryville, died Thursday, April 6, 1995, at Perry County Memorial Hospital.
He was born Nov. 2, 1915, in Perryville, the son of R. Emmett and Mary O. Levia Pittman Brewer. He married Catherine L. Prost Jan. 30, 1937. She died Dec. 3, 1982.
Brewer was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Holy Name Society, American Legion Post 133, VFW Post 4282 and a charter member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree. He was on the board of the Perry County Savings Bank and the Mount Hope Cemetery.
Survivors are a son, Melvin J. Brewer Jr. of Perryville; one daughter, Cathy A. Gagnepain of Festus; one brother, Robert E. Brewer of Perryville; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Friends may call from 4-9 p.m. today at the Young and Sons Chapel in Perryville and from 6:30-9:15 a.m. Saturday. A parish wake will be conducted at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral chapel.
Funeral Mass will be conducted at 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church with the Rev. Kevin Fausz officiating.
Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.
