Meeting to be held to discuss Byrd Creek project

Landowners in the Byrd Creek watershed can learn about a proposed $750,000 project to improve water quality and control soil erosion at a meeting Tuesday. The Cape Girardeau County Soil and Water Conservation District will hold the meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the University Extension Center, 684 W. Jackson Trail in Jackson.

The soil and water conservation district is applying for a $750,000 grant from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources to build structures to stabilize the creek and control runoff in the watershed, said Stan Murray, project director. The project is similar to the Hubble Creek project, which included the placement of three structures in the creek to stop the erosion of the streambed.
