CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Dr. Scot G. Pringle, obstetrics and gynecology, has assumed duties as president of the medical staff at Southeast Missouri Hospital, succeeding Dr. J. Russell Felker.
Also elected as 1991 medical staff officers were Dr. Brock P. Whittenberger, president-elect, and Dr. Mark C. Kasten, secretary.
"The new year will be one of challenge for the health care industry and for all of us," said Southeast administrator James W. Wente. "Our goals and objectives will be the same as they have always been provision of quality medical care and the continued development of the hospital's physical facilities and services. The medical staff played a vital role in the founding of Southeast more than 60 years ago, and today remains an integral part of our strength."
The new medical staff president is associated with OB-GYN Associates at 55 Doctors Park. He previously served as Medical staff secretary, and most recently, president-elect.
A native of Tribune, Kan., Pringle received his B.S. degree from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, in 1974, and went on to the University of Kansas at Kansas City, where he earned his M.D. degree in 1977. Pringle took his internship at E.W. Sparrow Hospital in Lansing, Mich., and his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Michigan State University at Lansing. He began medical practice in Cape Girardeau following completion of his residency in 1981.
He attained board certification from the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology in 1983. Pringle is a Fellow in the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Among his professional affiliations are the American Medical Association, the Missouri State Medical Association, and the Cape County Area Medical Society. He has served as chief of the department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Southeast. He has also served as secretary of the county medical society.
The new medical staff president-elect is a native of Grand Rapids, Mich. Whittenberger, a hermatologist-oncologist, is associated with Internal Medicine Group at 14 Doctors Park.
He received his B.A. degree from Amherst College in Amherst, and his M.A. in 1973. He received his M.D./Ph.D. from Washington University in 1979.
Whittenberger attained Diplomate status with the American Board of Internal Medicine in 1986, and Diplomate status in the sub-specialty of Medical Oncology in 1987. He serves as director of Medical Oncology at the hospital.
Kasten practices family medicine with the Family Practice Specialty Center at 63 Doctors Park. A longtime Cape Girardeau resident, Kasten received his B.A. degree in chemistry at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1973, and his M.D. degree at the same institution in 1977. He completed his residency at Baptist Memorial Hospital in Kansas City prior to establishing his practice in Cape Girardeau in 1980.
