SIKESTON, Mo. -- A "medical issue" apparently led to the death of a driver whose truck was discovered in a field near Sikeston.
About 7:30 a.m. Monday, the Sikeston Department of Public Safety officers responded to what appeared to be a motor vehicle accident near Route HH and North Ingram Road. When officers arrived, they found a vehicle had driven off the road and was stuck in a field, according to a news release from Capt. James McMillen, public information officer.
According to McMillen, officers found the driver, identified as David Allen Leonard, 36, of Advance, Missouri, was dead. McMillen said Leonard was the only occupant of the vehicle, which had no damage to the truck. Also Leonard had no evidence of trauma.
Scott County Coroner Scott Amick responded to the scene.
"It is believed that Leonard suffered some sort of medical event that led to his death," McMillen said. "We think this medical issue occurred, and that was what led to Leonard to driving off of the road and ending up in the field."
Leonard was transported to Blanchard's Funeral Home in Sikeston.
