The Muscular Dystrophy Association is seeking applications from those who would like to be volunteer counselors at MDA summer camps.
Each volunteers serves as a companion for a child or teen-ager with neuromuscular disease during a five- to seven-day camp session. Volunteers must be at least 16 years old and be able to lift a child, said MDA Chapter President Larry Loos.
MDA's summer camp in this area will be held June 11-16 at Touch of Nature Environmental Center in Giant City State Park near Carbondale, Ill. Campers enjoys arts, crafts, swimming, boating, cook-outs and making new friends.
Many volunteers return year after year, said Loos.

MDA is a voluntary health agency working to defeat 40 neuromuscular diseases through programs of worldwide research, comprehensive patient and community services, and far-reaching professional and public health education.
