SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- Capt. Dennis R. Lovell has been named commander of The Illinois State Police's District 12 Operations at Effingham.

Lovell, a McClure native, joined the State Police in 1976. He first worked in District 2 at Elgin. Three years later he was transferred to Macomb, where he was promoted to corporal.

He relocated to Springfield in 1985, and has served in a variety of executive positions in administration. He advanced to chief of staff to the staff services commander and advanced in rank to lieutenant.

Illinois State Police Director Terrance W. Gainer announced Lovell's latest promotion, to captain, and his appointment as District 12 commander.

In another announcement, Gainer reported that Phillip L. Goodman of Jonesboro had been promoted to sergeant. Goodman joined the Illinois State Police in 1985.
