Robb McClary stepped down Thursday as Cape Girardeau director of city inspections.
Mike Conrad will take over as the interim director. Conrad was previously the senior code inspector with the department.
"We appreciate his service and leadership within the Inspection Services Division," said city manager Doug Leslie. "Mr. McClary worked on several projects including the creation of the site plan review team, which streamlined the process of reviewing plans with several city divisions, updating the sign ordinance and updating the city building codes."
McClary, 57, took over city inspections in August 2002.
Leslie said department operations will continue without interruption.
McClary, who plays saxophone in a local band, survived a battle with colon cancer in 2004. He underwent five surgeries, radiation treatment and extensive chemotherapy, battling the disease for more than a year before returning to work in June of 2004.
