ST. LOUIS -- Mayor Francis Slay has signed into law a bill banning smoking in all city buildings.
Slay signed the bill Tuesday. The law is effective immediately.
The bill, sponsored by Alderman Freeman Bosley Sr., was approved by the board of aldermen on July 18.
"City workers deserve the protections afforded by smokefree workplaces, and those who use city hall and other government buildings will also benefit," said Deborah Boldt, director of the Missouri Partnership on Smoking or Health.
Exceptions to the bill are the public areas of the terminal buildings at Lambert Airport, where smoking will still be allowed.
