The Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium will host a free mass fatality planning and response course from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 29 at the Cape Girardeau County Public Health Department.

The course is certified by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security and will feature classroom instruction and group activities. Participants will learn basics of mass fatality response and will collaborate on solutions in simulated emergencies.

Topics will include defining a mass fatality incident, listing possible scenarios, identifying community objectives, identifying viable locations and designating needed resources.
