Are you interested in learning karate but aren't sure about committing to a class?
Universal Martial Arts school will offer a free eight-week karate course for beginners. Classes begin June 6 at Universal Physique, 505 S. Mount Auburn. Registration will be May 25 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.
Tracy Dietrich of Scott City will lead the classes. He has been teaching for about 18 months. Stass Huff, who has 19 years of teaching experience, owns the martial arts school.
The classes teach American, free-style karate and will be offered every Thursday from 1-3 p.m. The course will teach basic warm ups and stretching, footwork, kicks, punches and some ground fighting. It will also cover some self-defense moves. Students from 5 to 18 years old are welcome and should wear comfortable clothing.
The karate classes are part of a year-round program at Universal Martial Arts which also offers private and group lessons for children and adults.
