The 1994 Cape Girardeau March of Dimes Walk America will be held May 21. The same route as in the past will be used, with the start and finish at Cherry Hill Circle in Capaha Park. The goal is to raise $20,000.
The walk begins at 9 a.m. Prizes will be awarded based on the amount of money walkers raise.
March of Dimes officials point out that almost 40,000 of America's babies die every year. That's a higher rate than 23 other nations. Low birth weight and the problems associated with it are the leading causes of death before a baby's first birthday.
Through its Campaign for Healthier Babies, the March of Dimes is fighting to reduce the incidence of low birth weight and birth defects.
To sign up, call the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation, 785-9540. The 1993 Cape Girardeau Walk America was canceled because of the flood.
