MARBLE HILL, Mo. -- Marble Hill discovered last week that it still had $134,144.40 left over from a 2010 bond issue for water, sewer and street repairs.
Aldermen met Monday in special session to begin the application process for the water/sewer system upgrade and decided to put the money toward the forced main project and for several Missouri Department of Natural Resources abatement issues.
The unused bond revenue was discovered by Gilmore and Bell, the company that works with the city on bond matters. "We didn't know we had it," said city administrative assistant Tammy Whitney.
The surplus most likely remained on the books because a contractor on a previous project did not draw down money spent on expenses, city clerk Carla Watt said. She added that the city attorney was requested to double-check with Gilmore and Bell to be sure the city is on solid footing.
The board of aldermen voted unanimously to apply the money to the current water/sewer project before it would take further action on the proposed $1.7 million bond issue it will need to finish the upgrade.
Aldermen also passed other resolutions required as part of the application process for applying for federal money.
