State government offices in Missouri, along with local government offices and many banks, will be closed Thursday and Friday for the Thanksgiving holiday. The Friday after Thanksgiving hasn't always been a holiday on government calendars, but more governments are moving to make it an off day for workers by substituting opening offices on another holiday each year. Gov. Jay Nixon began allowing state offices to close the Friday after Thanksgiving in 2012 after a budget-related hiatus in 2010 and 2011. Local government offices that will be closed Friday include those of Bollinger, Cape Girardeau, Perry and Scott counties. The cities of Cape Girardeau, Jackson, Perryville, Mo., and Scott City also will close offices Friday.
