CAPE GIRARDEAU -- Manpower Temporary Services has opened an office here.
"We're looking forward to meeting the temporary employment needs of local businesses," said Kim Hill, branch manager. "Manpower is the world's largest temporary help service."
The new office is located at 106 Farrar Drive, Suite 104. Other staff representatives include Martha Minton, Janet Heise, and Peggy Webb.
"We have a unique employment and service center," she added. "Much of our growth is due to the temporary employee testing and training programs which has been developed by Manpower. Our office has facilities for the training and assessment of our temporary employees so we can insure that they have the skills our customers need."
Manpower's office automation training program, "Skillware," is available free to Manpower's temporary employees.
"It's a proven method that has trained more than a half-million people around the world to use office computers," said Hill.
Skillware is a state-of-the-art training method for word processing, data energy, electronic spreadsheet, communications and database skills, and is available for more than 50 of the most popular brands of hardware and software.
Hill said that in addition to training temporary employees, Manpower has been using Skillware to train permanent employees of many of its customer companies.
The new Manpower office also features the firm's industrial skills testing program, Ultradex.
"This series of job-related skills assessments allows Manpower to diagnose workers' skills as well as personal characteristics, such as the ability to follow directions that are important to productivity," she said.
"Ultradex allows us to identify the types of jobs our employees do well, and the types of jobs they enjoy," said Hill. "That means we can place them in temporary positions in which they will perform up to their of full potential."
In addition to office and industrial workers, Manpower provides temporary workers to perform services for customers in marketing and technical fields.
Manpower's Cape Girardeau office is part of a network of 1,600 Manpower offices in 34 countries. The firm annually provides temporary employment of more than a million people worldwide.
