A prosecutor will determine whether the man who allegedly threatened to rob a Cape Girardeau bank Friday will face a peace disturbance charge.
A 55-year-old man was arrested after he entered the US Bank at 325 N. Kingshighway around 1 p.m. Friday and became angry with a cashier, according to police. The cashier had informed the man that she could not cash a check for him because he was not an account holder and did not have the identification the bank requires.
The man grew angry and told the cashier that he had always wanted to rob the bank, according to police. Bank employees called police after the man left and he was arrested when he returned to the bank shortly after the incident. He was later released from police custody and a report was sent to the prosecutor's office.
Assistant prosecutor Jack Koester will decide whether to charge the man with disturbing the peace, Prosecuting Attorney Morley Swingle said Tuesday. Koester, who could not be reached for comment, was reviewing the case Tuesday afternoon and would let the media know when a decision was reached, Swingle said.
Because no charges are filed, the man's name has not been released.
