The man who coined the term Ebonics is coming to Southeast Missouri State University. Dr. Robert L. Williams will speak at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 11, at the University Center Ballroom.
Williams is professor emeritus of psychology and African and African-American studies at Washington University in St. Louis. He wrote the books, "Ebonics: The True Language of Black Folks" and "The Collective Black Mind: Toward an Afrocentric Theory of the Black Personality."
He is working on a book about how parents perpetuate racism through a process he calls "racial scripting."
Since the controversy about Ebonics has hit the news, he's testified before Congress and appeared on NBC news and Black Entertainment Television.
