Man to lobby for manufactured home on Fountain Street

Alfred Farrar wants to put a manufactured home on his property at 804 N. Fountain St. in Cape Girardeau. The Cape Girardeau Planning and Zoning Commission, which meets at 7 p.m. today at city hall, will decide whether he'll get a special permit for the home.

Farrar's property is at the corner of Fountain and Pearl streets. His request to the city includes a description of the 30-by-40-foot home, which would be built over a full basement.

The building, which would be his retirement home, "would have more curb appeal," according to Farrar's special permit application, which also stated "The home is just like any other home, except it is built in a factory" and went on to say it would not be a mobile home. The application indicated the home's design is approved by the Veterans Affairs and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development. Drawings included in the application show a single story ranch-style home.

The commission will also review an a special-use permit by Southeast Missouri Hospital to build a 30-space parking lot on Sunset Boulevard, between Broadway and Lacey Street.

The board will also consider James Garrett's request to reverse his subdivision request approved last year for property in the Carolewood Estates neighborhood. Garrett had intended to build a driveway but the application being reviewed at today's meeting noted his "plans had changed."

Riverwest Partners, LC, has applied for approval of new plats in the Waldon Park subdivision as well as parcels in the Laurel Grove subdivision.

Having held a wide-ranging discussion on Feb. 11 over changes in a residential zoning draft that quickly focused on rentals, the commissioners today examine the first draft of suggested commercials and industrial zoning districts.
