A Sikeston, Missouri, man was so enraged during an argument with his girlfriend, he threw an approximately 40-pound concrete bird bath through the rear windshield of the vehicle she was in Saturday, police said.
Billy E. Ross, 23, was arrested by Scott County sheriff’s deputies Saturday and charged with felony second-degree domestic assault and misdemeanor property damage.
Ross and his girlfriend began arguing about 4 a.m. while they were driving to an address on Route HH, according to a probable-cause statement by sheriff’s deputy Danny Finley.
During the argument, Ross began punching the car radio until it was damaged, Finley wrote.
When they arrived at the address, the argument continued, with Ross exiting the vehicle and the victim still in the driver’s seat, Finley wrote. The victim said Ross spat in her face and then picked up a concrete bird bath and threw it through the rear windshield, Finley wrote. The victim said the force of the bird bath striking her seat pushed her toward the steering wheel, and she believed Ross was attempting to hit her with the bird bath, Finley wrote, noting he observed the damage to the vehicle.
Finley advised Ross of his Miranda rights, and Ross told him he was not trying to hurt the victim but was trying to break the window, Finley wrote.
“I threw a bird bath through the window. I’m ready to go to jail,” Finley quoted Ross as saying.
Ross’ bond was set at $1,500 cash or surety, with the condition he have no contact with the victim.
