Man suspected of church, business burglaries waives preliminary hearing

A 19-year-old Jackson man accused of burglarizing several Cape Girardeau and Jackson businesses waived his preliminary hearing for all charges Thursday before Associate Circuit Court Judge Gary A. Kamp.

Chance G. Breese was first charged March 1 with property damage, second-degree burglary and misdemeanor theft for allegedly breaking into First General Baptist Church and damaging an ATM at Commerce Bank.

Additional charges were filed against Breese on March 16, 17 and March 22 in connection with burglaries at four Jackson businesses -- Jackson Laundry Mat, Jackson Muffler, Curious Kids Daycare and a barbershop on Main Street.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Breese admitted to breaking into and stealing money from the barbershop. He also admitted to breaking into Jackson Laundry Mat, Jackson Muffler and the day care, where he stole around $200 in cash.

Breese, who is already serving probation for a misdemeanor charge, admitted a violation and had his probation revoked Thursday. Kamp sentenced him to serve 60 days in the Cape Girardeau County Jail for the violation.
