PIEDMONT, Mo. -- One man was shot in the leg during an altercation around 11 a.m. Saturday, according to Piedmont police chief Richard Sanders.

The victim was transported to Saint Francis Medical Center in Cape Girardeau.

"He underwent microscopic surgery for a wound in the right leg below the knee and was released Sunday," Sanders said.

Two men were involved in the altercation, which remains under investigation.

"The shooting stemmed from an argument inside a business on Highway HH in South Piedmont," Sanders said.

He identified the victim as being 47 and the shooter 62. Names were not released. Sanders said charges may be filed in the future.

The investigation has been turned over to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
