Cape Girardeau police said a man walking in the northeast part of town was shot Friday morning and a suspect is still on the loose.

The victim, unnamed by police, was confronted between 3 and 4 a.m. by someone driving a vehicle, said Sgt. Rick Schmidt.

After a discussion, the suspect displayed the gun and fired four times. One hit the man "in the lower half of his body," Schmidt said. Investigators wouldn't release further information about the injury, except to say that it is not life-threatening.

Apparently, the victim did not seek immediate medical attention, Schmidt said. Officers responded to the hospital at 3:10 p.m.
