On Oct. 5, an officer investigating reports of a suspicious person approached Poindexter, who shot at the officer, striking the steering wheel of the patrol car, authorities said. Poindexter told police he was concerned that police wanted to question him.

Poindexter ran from the scene and was later apprehended. The pistol was found inside of his jacket, U.S. Attorney Ray Gruender said.
