POPLAR BLUFF -- One of the eight men charged for a riot that injured police last June in Cape Girardeau was sentenced to six months in jail and given a $500 fine, the Cape Girardeau County Prosecutor's office said.
The sentence recommended for Elijah J.D. Fisher, 18, by a jury in December was upheld Tuesday by a Butler County judge, said Ian Sutherland, assisant Cape Girardeau County prosecutor. He had been found guilty of rioting.
Another man, Jermaine Williams, had been scheduled to be sentenced but was not able to appear in court. The judge rescheduled Williams' sentencing until Tuesday.
The trial of Kenneth Campbell, also slated to start Tuesday in Jefferson County's court on a change of venue, has been postponed, Sutherland said. Campbell's defense attorney, Charles Shaw of St. Louis, has been suffering from a prolonged illness, the prosecutor said.
