Man pleads guilty to second assault charge

A Cape Girardeau man pleaded guilty to his second misdemeanor domestic assault charge this year Nov. 4 before Associate Circuit Court Judge Gary A. Kamp.

Sola Depree Jr., 48, was charged Oct. 8 with assaulting his wife during two separate incidents. In court documents, police wrote that Depree returned to his home after being stabbed following the first assault. The victim said she stabbed Depree in self-defense.

During the second incident, two hours after the first, Depree hit the victim in the face and "body-slammed" her to the ground after she tried to stop him from removing electronics from the home.

According to police, the victim had several head injuries, including a cut from her eye to the center of her cheek on the left side of her face.

Depree was originally charged with two counts domestic assault, but the prosecution dropped count two per a plea agreement.

Kamp ordered Depree serve 180 days in jail, suspending the execution of the sentence. Depree was ordered to complete two years of supervised probation and anger management courses. He was also fined $1,000 and told he must follow and complete any additional counseling or program recommendations from his probation officer.

Depree has a prior domestic assault conviction in Cape Girardeau County. He served 15 days in the county jail on the charge in June.
