According to information from the prosecuting attorney's office, Cape Girardeau police observed Gant around 11:35 p.m. Monday allegedly attempting to break into the Westside Convenience Store at 2021 Perryville Road.

Patrolman David Valentine approached Gant, who reportedly ran from the store into some woods. While running from police, Gant lost the cap he had been wearing and the pry bar he allegedly used in the attempted burglary. Both items were located next to each other in the woods on the path that he reportedly ran from.

Later, Gant reportedly took police to the vehicle he said he had driven to the scene. A search of the vehicle turned up a Missouri temporary license that had been reported stolen. Police also located a pair of pliers and a multibit screwdriver in Gant's front pocket.
