ST. LOUIS Donald O. Schnuck, chairman of the board of Schnuck Markets, Inc., has been named St. Louis "Man of the Year."
Schnuck was selected by the past Men of the Year to be the 37th recipient of the award, and was presented the traditional silver bowl and framed scroll recently at Washington University, by 1989 Man of the Year, Dr. Peter H. Raven, director of the Missouri Botanical Garden.
"Schnuck is a world-class leader in the food industry," said Raven, in presenting the award. "Yet, he has never lost his sensitivity and care for those who do not share in his abundance. He has consistently worked to support the enrichment of St. Louis' quality of life and economic well-being with a constant focus on supporting family and children."
Schnuck, a native St. Louisan, was elected president of Schnuck Markets in 1970 and chairman in 1984, is a member of the board of director of Mercantile Bancorporation, Inc. He served as chairman of the 1988 Salvation Army Tree of Lights, and is a past chairman of the board of St. Louis Children's Hospital.
Schnuck Markets operates 61 stores, 54 of them in the metropolitan St. Louis area. Other locations included Cape Girardeau and Columbia.
