Man killed Saturday in I-55 accident identified as Scott City resident

The man who was killed Saturday after a single-car accident on Interstate 55 has been identified as a 26-year-old Scott City resident.

Cory Don Adam Ezell was either walking alongside or was on the northbound lane of Interstate 55 in Scott City when he was struck by a car and killed, Scott County chief deputy coroner Jerry Goin said Tuesday.

Ezell was pronounced dead at the scene at 10:48 p.m.

Ezell was a graduate of Woodland High School in Marble Hill, Mo., and served in the U.S. Navy. He had one son.

Visitation will be from noon to service time Thursday at DeLisle Funeral Home in Portageville, Mo. The funeral will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home, with the Rev. Fred Ritter officiating.

Scott City police chief Don Cobb said Monday the driver of a car in the northbound lane of I-55 near mile marker 90 hit Ezell walking on or crossing the highway's lanes.

Cobb said the driver, who was alone in the car, was transported to a local hospital with "some significant injuries." He said the driver was not exceeding the speed limit and that no charges will be filed.

The Scott County Sheriff's Department closed the northbound lanes until about 1 a.m., Sheriff Rick Walter said, adding that traffic was heavy at that time of night.
