LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. (AP) -- One man is dead after being hit by a train overnight in suburban Kansas City.
Police said the 47-year-old man was walking on the tracks in Lee's Summit just before 4 a.m. Wednesday when he was hit by a Union Pacific train. The engineer said he sounded the horn on the train but the man didn't get out of the way.
The train needed a half mile to stop after the man was struck, police said, so the victim was not found for several minutes.
The man suffered serious injuries and died at a hospital.
His name has not been released.
