A local man was hospitalized early Thursday morning after punching and breaking a window at the vacant Royal N'Orleans restaurant building.
The man was severely injured, according to police. Before leaving the scene in a private vehicle, the man, who police wouldn't identify, left a blood trial on Broadway from the establishment's entrance to outside the KFVS12 building. Blood stains were also on the sidewalk outside the Southeast Missourian building.
Cape Girardeau police spokesman Darin Hickey said the man was not charged but that police were still investigating.
Hickey wouldn't say whether the man was intoxicated, but he did say he wasn't attempting to break in the former restaurant.
