BENTON, Mo. -- A wanted Sikeston, Mo., man with more than 28 arrests on his record was charged with five felonies Wednesday, a day after he led Sikeston authorities on a nine-block car chase.

Police with the Sikeston Department of Public Safety tried to stop Lloyd D. Gilmore, 29, just after 1 p.m. Tuesday. Gilmore was wanted in Scott County for felony stalking and domestic assault.

According to a probable-cause affidavit filed by the court, when Gilmore spotted police he backed into a motorist behind him and continued to push the vehicle backward. Police pursued Gilmore for nearly 10 blocks, arresting him on South Kingshighway after a brief foot pursuit. At the time of his arrest, Gilmore was allegedly in possession of 7 grams of marijuana.

Gilmore is charged with resisting arrest, first-degree property damage, possession of marijuana, second-degree assault and assault of a law enforcement officer. The affidavit said Gilmore committed assault when he put his vehicle in reverse and attempted to injure the driver.

Gilmore has two felony convictions for distribution and possession of marijuana and 16 misdemeanor arrests. According to Missouri Casenet, charges date back to 2001 in Scott and Pemiscot counties. In October, Gilmore was sentenced to four years' supervised probation for felony property damage.
