A man was in serious condition after a shooting Friday evening, Cape Girardeau police reported.
Details were sketchy, but police said the shooting was reported shortly before 7 p.m. in the 1100 block of Cousin Street.
Sgt. Adam Glueck of the Cape Girardeau Police Department said the victim had multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to a hospital by private vehicle.
"We got multiple calls of gunshots in that area right around seven this evening," Glueck said Friday.
Glueck did not know the extent or location of the victim's injuries.
He could not say whether the case was related to other recent shootings in the area.
"We're kind of right in the midst of it," Glueck said in a telephone interview Friday evening. "We're trying to sort through it."
Police were not releasing a motive or suspect Friday night, but a statement emailed to local media shortly before midnight Friday reported the victim was in serious condition.
On Saturday morning, Sgt. Jason Selzer said it did not appear to be related to a fatal shooting that occurred a few hours later in the same part of town.
Anthony Hempstead, 26, of Cape Girardeau was shot to death a few minutes after midnight in the 800 block of Jefferson Avenue, about four blocks from the earlier shooting. The Cape Girardeau County/Bollinger County Major Case Squad is investigating.
