The man was apparently intoxicated, Hammonds said.

Witnesses at the scene, who declined to give their names, said the man had told them to turn down a car stereo, then crossed back to his apartment building before pulling the gun and shooting it at the ground.

The gun was not recovered, Hammonds said. The man was being held at the Cape Girardeau Police Department until a warrant for his arrest could be obtained, Hammonds said.
