A Cape Girardeau man was released from Southeast Missouri Hospital late Tuesday after suffering minor burns in a garage fire.
Alford Farrar, 804 N. Fountain, was working on the gas-tank area of a vehicle parked in the garage at the home when the fire started at about 6:40 p.m.
Cape Girardeau Fire Capt. Fred Vincel said fire officials believe gas dripped onto Farrar's work light, breaking the bulb and causing the fuel to ignite.
When firefighters arrived, Farrar had been moved by family members and neighbors from the garage area to a nearby vehicle.
"We saw that he was obviously in trouble and we called an ambulance," Vincel said.
Firefighters promptly extinguished the fire, which caused extensive damage to the structure and destroyed the two vehicles parked inside.
