SPRINGFIELD, Ill. -- A man who allegedly got a running start and twice head-butted a car's rear passenger window with a motorcycle helmet is charged with attempted burglary, Sangamon County prosecutors said.

Zachary G. Holloway, 20, of Loami, was charged with attempted burglary.

A witness told police he heard a "thump" while standing in a motel parking lot around 1 a.m. Monday.

He reported turning to see someone wearing a white motorcycle helmet ram it into a car window. The witness said the man then tried using a crowbar on the window, then left in a car, police said.

Police stopped and arrested Holloway and Mayes in the car they were driving near the motel later that morning. Officers reported a strong smell of alcohol during the arrests.

Holloway and Mayes remained in the Sangamon County Jail Thursday on $5,000 bond. First assistant state's attorney John Belz said the pair may face additional charges.
