POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. -- A 26-year-old Dexter, Mo., man was sentenced to six years in prison for his part in the death of his 5-month-old son in May 2005. Judge Mark Lee Richardson handed down the verdict to Earl Handy in a Butler County courtroom Tuesday. Handy was originally charged with the second-degree murder, armed criminal action and abuse of a child resulting in death. He pleaded guilty to the reduced charge of the first-degree involuntary manslaughter in February. Charges against Handy stemmed from an investigation conducted by the Stoddard County Major Case Squad into an incident that occurred May 25, 2005, that left Davonte Handy with injuries that eventually led to his death at the St. Louis Children's Hospital.
