JEFFERSON CITY -- Randy Rodgers, an aging program specialist with the Missouri Department of Social Services Division of Aging, was recognized by Gov. Mel Carnahan as State Employee of the Month for October for his quick thinking in helping an elderly couple who were robbed.
His exemplary performance on the job was repeated when Rodgers assisted the couple following a beating and robbery attack at a Missouri rest area. He came to the assistance of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Saegar of House Springs, calming them, contacting the highway patrol and notifying the couple's credit card companies and bank.
Rodgers then remained with the Saegars until they were able to continue their drive home.
In his daily work, the award-winner provides assistance to the elderly as supervisor of the Division of Aging's Central Registry Unit in Jefferson City. The unit handles elderly abuse and neglect hotline calls and responds to requests for information on aging services.
Rodgers is the son of Alva and Wanda Rodgers of Advance.
