Man gets 6 months for trespassing on base

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- An Iowa anti-war activist has been sentenced to six months in prison for trespassing at central Missouri's Whiteman Air Force Base to protest the use of unmanned military drones.

U.S. Magistrate Judge Matt Whitworth sentenced Brian Terrell of Maloy on Thursday. Maloy and retired minister Ron Faust of suburban Kansas City were found guilty of the misdemeanor offense in September.

The men were among a group of 40 protesters who demonstrated at the air base in mid-April. They were arrested after entering a restricted area without permission.

Faust was sentenced to five years of probation, while Terrell received the maximum sentence. A third protester, Mark Kenney of Omaha, Neb., is serving a four-month sentence after pleading guilty in June to trespassing.
