Court documents stated a fire marshal with the Springfield Fire Department went to Rush's home in March after a witness reported seeing improvised explosive devices inside.

The statement said during a search of the home, an improvised explosive device was found in plain view in the living room. Authorities said another device was found in the kitchen, along with two containers of gunpowder found in Rush's bedroom.
