One man was shot Friday afternoon on North Fountain Street in Cape Girardeau.

The man was shot in one leg about 1:30 p.m. and was found near a parking lot at an apartment complex at 510 N. Fountain St., according to Cape Girardeau Police public information officer Adam Glueck.

Although several shots were fired, the man was struck only once, Glueck said. He was taken to a Cape Girardeau hospital, and he was conscious and talking with police as he was treated at the scene, Glueck said.

The man said he did not know the person who shot him, and he was not giving much information to police, Glueck said. Glueck would not give the victim’s name or any other identifying information.

No witnesses have come forward who saw the shooting even as police canvassed the area.

Residents at 510 N. Fountain St. who declined to be named said as many as seven shots were fired. One said the shooting came from a neighboring cemetery.
