An early morning shooting Tuesday that sent one man to the hospital may be related to a reported home invasion in East Cape Girardeau, Ill., according to an investigator.
About 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, a man with a gunshot wound was found at a carwash at Themis and Middle streets in Cape Girardeau, a Cape Girardeau police spokesman said, after police went to the carwash.
About the same time, the Alexander County Sheriff's Department in Illinois received a report of a home invasion, said Sheriff Tim Brown. Three men reportedly attempted to rob a home in East Cape Girardeau and shots were fired, Brown said.
Four people in the East Cape Girardeau home were not injured. Brown said no suspects had been identified or were in custody Tuesday afternoon. He also said it remains unclear whether the incidents are related.
Cape Girardeau police said earlier Tuesday the shooting does not appear to be a random act of violence. Brown said the sheriff's department is coordinating with Cape Girardeau police in an ongoing investigation. There was no word on the man's condition late Tuesday.
