FESTUS, Mo. -- The body of an eastern Missouri drowning victim has been recovered from the Mississippi River, authorities said.

T.J. Sebastian, 26, of De Soto died Friday while trying to maneuver a sail boat to a ramp at a state park in Jefferson County, the Missouri State Water Patrol said.

Witnesses said there were concerns that the water was too shallow to operate the boat's motor, so Sebastian jumped overboard to swim the boat to the ramp. Sebastian, who could not swim, began struggling. Another man jumped into the water to help, but Sebastian fought the man's effort, the patrol said.

Sebastian's body was recovered around 5 p.m. Saturday.
